I am looking for info. on the Gunner family located in or around Stringers Common,Guildford, Surrey England. My grandmother was Evelyn Gunner and she met my grandfather in England when he was stationed there with the Canadian Army in WWI. He marriedmy grandmother in Guildford and they came to the U.S in 1919 or 1920. She died in 1940 and I have never known much about her. My father (her only child) is still alive and doesn't know much about her family there. She also had a sister Belle who married a friend of my grandfather and they moved to Canada. Any info on the Gunner's would be greatly appreciated! They were a very large family from what my father heard! Thank you...

Alice Duntze married my ancestor Alfred Wiltshire in September 1891 in Guildford. They had three children Frank b1894, Florence b1897 and Reginald b1900. Alfred was involved with the postal service. All the children were born in Egham. I am afterinformation on the family and even better long lost relations. I live in Tasmania and am doing this research on behalf of an elderly relation who lost contact with the family after migrating to Australia in 1921. Looking for detail on Thomas Stacey c 6.12.1835 Fernhurstson of Thomas Stacey and Ann Stacey - who married 30.3.1861 to Mary Ann (nee Milton)Payton. Thomas was Mary's second husband as her first husband Henry died. There may be children from her first marriage, but with Thomas according to the 1881 census they had Arthur b 1867 Guildford and Alfred b 1871 Guildford. In 1881 they lived at Farnham Road, Guildford St Nicholas, Surrey. Mary Ann's brother William married Thomas's sister Ann Stacey. They were married 9.2.1856 in Fernhurst, and had the following children Daniel b 1859; Mary Ann b 1858; George b 1856, it is possible they may have had more children. Any information would be appreciated.

George William Downes was a Cabinet Maker (born 1836 in Guildford, Surrey) who lived in 26 - 28 Bright Hill, Charlotteville, Guildford. He had three wives during his lifetime (1) Charlotte Lunn, 1829-1868, born Guildford; (2) Eliza Emily Evans, born Guildford, 1848-1882; (3) Mary Ann Basson, 1851-1910, born near Witney, Oxfordshire. George had a number of children: Eliza Mary, 1862; Lucy, 1863; Alice Louise, 1868; Frank Wilfred, 1874; Ernest Gilbert, 1876; Nellie Artis, 1881-1882; Claude Ida, 1885. George William Downes spoke fluent French and German and visited Paris in France several times. He was also taught in schools in Guildford and Woking on Art and Science, and he designed the Unitarian Church in Ward Street, Guildford, and he was a Treasurer of Natural History Society, and for 33 years he was also Chairman of the Deposit Friendly Society. He died in November 1915 and buried at The Mount, Guildford. There were other branches of the Downes family in Guildford, (all the following came from Guildford originally) such as in Farncombe, Camberwell, Rotherhithe; Abingdon, Berkshire, City of Oxford, also in Kent and in Plymouth, Devon, and in Slough, Berkshire.

Am researching the Seabrook family in Guildford. Harry Seabrook, a butcher, married Harriet Smith in 1804 and lived in Suffolk before moving to Guildford. Looking for parents and sibblings of Uriah Keene, he was born 1804 Guildford Surrey, became a stone mason, married Mary Ann Smithers in Plaxtol Kent in 1832 and moved to Marylebone London. His father James Keene, I have no information about and his Brother Benjamin Keene was a Stone Mason in Guildford, and his grand father was master of the House of Correction I think, thanks Eileen.

I am researching Seabrooks in Guildford and later Marylebone.
I have Thomas Seabrook b1769c place unknown who had a son John Seabrook b1807 in Guildford. John was a bellringer who married Mary Tickner in 1828. They had one son John b1831 then Mary died in 1831/32. In 1833 John snr married Martha Young and had another four children b1836 -1850 - Sarah, Thomas, William and Emma.
John snr and Martha later moved to Marylebone. John jnr became a plumber as did his younger brother William. John jnr married Elizabeth (surname unknown) and they had at least one son Alfred William b1864.

The Arnop trade was butcher's and Marys father Thomas suppiled goods to Petworth House.Marys former husband Richard Nash was a miller.Looking for his place of birth & death. We also have a later Nash Caleb b 1836 Northchapel Sussex who ended up in Guildford, de married Louisa Reed there children Caleb, Matida, frederick, Elizabeth & Sarah. The second Caleb b 1872 married Florence, children frederick, Thomas and Louisa Rose all born Shere. In 1901 census Caleb was photography. All info welcome epecially on descendents

I am researching the CATHRINE family in the Guildford area.
Joseph Cathrine was born around 1815 in Kent. He joined the Royal Marines at the age of 11 years as a drummer boy and subsequently the 45th Regiment of Foot. He married a Guildford girl (Sophia) and in 1854, after many years in South Africa where several of their children were born (and died), they returned to Guildford. Joseph and two of his daughters died of Cholera in August 1854 in a place called Friary Place and I can't find that on a map. Two of the daughters married railwaymen (Snell and Glazier) and a son moved to Cheltenham. His son Francis married Eliza Harding and as far as I know the family stayed around Guildford. Any information about the places mentioned or remaining family members would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for information on and descendants of Charles John PHILLIPS, born at Folkestone, Kent, in 1869, and Georgina CLACY, born at Wareham, Dorset, in 1870, who married at Ringwood in Hampshire in 1893. Charles worked for the London and South West Railway, originally as a steam-getter and later as an engine driver. They had at least two children born in Ringwood: Eleanor Jane (1894) and Clarissa May (1896). A third child, Georgina Lucy, was born in Southampton in 1899. At the date of the 1901 census the family was living at Denzil (?) Road in Guildford. Eleanor married Reginald Plumley at Guildford in the Dec 1922 quarter. Clarissa married Ron Lodge in 1936 but had no children. Does anyone recognise any of these people please?

Can anyone help me find absolutely any info on Frederick Arthur Roberts born somewhere around about 1909. All i have on this guy is that he married Christibel May Plumb may 1930. She is from Bury St Edmonds. They got divorced between 1930 and 1940 as she remarried. She has not spoken of anything to do with this chap. I cannot find a birth certificate for him as nothing tallys up. I know his father was called John William Roberts but by 1930 when Fred married he was already dead. Am finding it near impossible to trace this guy and its over 2 years of searching now. Any help what so ever would be gratefully received!!
