I have two Walter Quaife's being born in 1800 and one in 1795. One Walter died in 1839, aged 39 and one is on the 1851 census as being 51. As the ages in the 1841 census were rounded it is difficult to use them as a guide line. I have been informed that most children in the parish of Catsfield were christened when they were a few weeks old. Walter Quaife married married Sophie Brett / Brit 10.11.1821. He died 24.9 1878. Walter Quaife married Hannah Crouch 8.4.1823. He died 3.9.1839. I think that Hannah re married. I have the parent of the three Walters and the children of the two Walters that I know married. Henry Poole Hepburn - (Chailey - Sussex)
Our 2x great grandmother Henrietta Poole Hepburn Beverley, born 1849, appears to be illegitimate. I have never been able to locate any birth or baptism records. Her mother is Emily Beverley and they move around in London, eg Chelsea, Pimlico, Westminster. Because of the name combination I have suspicions that Henry Poole Hepburn is the father (or at least claimed to be the father). I have not found the combination Poole Hepburn anywhere else. There is no real evidence though. Henry marries but has not got any legitimate children. His will does mention some trusts but no specifics. Emily is described as an annuitant on the 1851 census. I would be most interested if anyone has any more information on a possible link between Henry and our ancestors, or knows of a way to find out! Many thanks, Elke
