All Saints Convent St Albans
My sister & I were sent to a convent in St Albans( Anglican) from our home in Newcastle in c 1949-52 . All Saints was an Anglican church. I know all of it's recent history, but am struggling to locate any records. About 10 years ago I spoke to the Mother Superior( now in Oxford) & she was rather vague to say the least.
From a number of accounts it seems to have been a 'council convent' who took in evacuates. Another source states it being an orphanage/unmarried mothers home.
All I was told was that it was a convent in St Albans. My mother never told us why-but a hunch that I have was that she may have been pregnant to a man who was not my father.
I can remember the convent in fits & starts & did have a photo years ago of my sister & I in the playground.
I had someone from Herts FH do a few searches for me a while back to no avail.
Any info will be welcomed.
