red mail Toker/ Collins
Hi I am looking for any details on Captain Edward Toker of the steamship the Leinster Lass. He is my great great great great grandfather. He married Ellen Bagnall and my great great great grandmother, his daughter, married Mary Toker September 1859 at St Peters RC church. She had a sister Jane Toker who married in 1868/9 February to a McKenna. I have hit a roadblock as cannot find any details of Capt Edward Tokers family or Marys husband Patrick Collins apart from him formerly being of the Imperial Hotel Drogheda. It sounds like he was staying there. He had money and went to Liverpool to run two hotels on the docks at Mersey st Liverpool. Any McKennas who have any details of the Tokers or Bagnalls or Of Patrick himself gratefully received. Is there a family bible out there?? Would love to hear- also does anyone know of a photo or painting of the Captain? He was quite prominent in the town. Thanks Delphi

red mail Edward Gallagher - Railway Clerk
My grandfather Edward Gallagher married a Margaret Carton. He was a railway clerk at the Drogheda Railway station. At the 1912 Census they were living in Railway Terrace. They had sons: Gerard, John Francis, Vincent and Joe. After his death (not known), his wife Margaret took the boys to live in Belfast. She ran an insurance business. Gerard went to the USA and lived on Status Island. John Frances (my father) joined the RAF and was stationed in Stowaway, Scotland. He married my mom, Josephine Harrington in Paisley Scotland. I would like to know where my grandfather, Edward Gallagher is buried as well as my grandmother Margaret Carton-Gallagher. My uncle, Joe Gallagher, lived in the Falls Road. Jim Gallagher, perhaps, a cousin ran a hotel in Bundoran.

red mail Scanlan family Drogheda
Edward & Elizabeth Scanlan (nee Riley) had children baptised at St Peter's Drogheda in 1820's & 1830's. Mary (1828), Judith (1830), Patrick (1835) and Christopher (1846). We cannot find their Marriage in this Parish and I would be interested to find any further info leading to this family. Family legend has it that they came from County Clare, overlooking Galway Bay! We found a Scanlan family in Grenham's Irish Surnames in a Parish called Carrigaholt which is in the right area, but haven't got the records yet. Elizabeth went to Hebburn, Co. Durham with Christopher (Gt Grandfather) and Patrick and appear on the 1881 Census there as Grocer's. Christopher married Catherine Byrne (father Patrick) originally from Killanny, Co. Meath. Patrick Byrne was married to Catherine Hannah & he went to live in Sunderland and then Westhoe, South Shields, Co. Durham. It is thought both the Byrne & Hannah families came from the Louth/Meath area.
