red mail Ellis Families living in Curbar
My maiden name is Ellis and my father was Harry Ellis from Eyam. My grandfather, William Ellis, I believe was born and lived in Curbar as a child and young man,he lived at 69 Main Road Curbar with his father Job Ellis - married to Mary? he had a brother Garshorn who was his best man at his wedding and I also know he had a sister Corah, as I remember her when I was a small child, I believe she had a drapers shop in Eyam. Can anyone help me with information about my family when they lived in Curbar, please
red mail Ellises in Curbar
There were a large number of Ellis families living in Curbar in the first half of the 19th century. The men were mainly all stonemasons. Joseph Ellis (1789-1868), my maternal 3gt grandfather was one such Ellis. Most of his sons left Curbar in the 1840s/1850s to live and work in Ecclesall Bierlow. My great grandfather Thomas Ellis eventually moved from Sheffield to Middlesbrough in the 1890s. Anyone with an interest in this family is welcome to contact me.
