red mail THORNE, JAMES/ WARD and EDITH MARY
JAMES P THORNE (2nd Cousin) was born in CARDIFF on 29.01.1933. He married EDITH MARY (removed for security reasons) at OXFORD in 1960. His parents were HAYDEN RUDOLF THORNE and NORRIE LOUISE (removed for security reasons) , they lived in PENARTH GLAMORGAN. In 1988 EDITH MARY's address was WOOPLAW HOUSE, Galashiels. JAMES and EDITH had two children MAGNUS JAMES and LEWIS. In 1992 MAGNUS JAMES address was also WOOLPLAW HOUSE or maybe WOOPLAW FARM HOUSE, Galashiels. I would very much like to know more about the family and the area they lived in. If you are able to help it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Cheryl

red mail ANDREW MANN
My Great grandfather was born in Stirling Street Galashiels in 1847. His father also Andrew was a blacksmith. Was the smithy in Stirling Street? And at which house did they live, having visited the street I note that only 6 cottages have survived?

red mail George TAKET & Ann BLAIR
Anne BLAIR was born on 27th Sept 1845 in Galashiels. She was the 3rd child of Christina SCOTT (ca. 1813 - 1878 in NZ) and Robert BLAIR (1813 - 1857)and grew up in Edinburgh. At the time of the 1871 Census Ann lived with her aunt Elizabeth MURRAY (nee SCOTT) at the Railway Hotel in Ladhope, Roxburghshire. On 5 Jun 1871 Ann married George TAKET /TACKET in Ladhope. George died just a years later in 1872 at the age of 39 years. Ann & George's only child Christina Blair TAKET, was born after her father's death on 19. Jan.1873 in Ladhope and died in 1874 in Ladhope. Having lost both her husband and her child, Ann followed her two brothers and mother to Dunedin, NZ. She sailed from Glasgow on the ship "Oamaru" in Nov. 1874. In 1878 Ann TACKET married Edward BENNETT in West Clive, Hawkes Bay. Annie Blair BENNETT died in 1890 in Clive and was buried at Hastings Cemetery. Her three living issues were: Elizabeth Maude BENNETT (born 1878), George Edward BENNETT (born 1882) and Millicent BENNETT (born 1887). I would love to hear from anyone researching this family.
red mail Blackadder
Looking for anyone named Blackadder who knew Les West of Salford and his wife Milly. Les served in Burma and India and his best mate was Harry Winstanley. Les was my Dad and when I was a baby a picture book was drawn for me about Wee Willie Winkie by a person whose surname was Blackadder. The person was female, I think, and came from the Galashiels area. My Mum and Dad visited them just after WW2 but as I was just a baby I have no memory of this. I have lost the picture book long ago but I am trying to find the family. My name is also Lesley West but I was known by a nickname at the time. Any info at all will be welcome.
red mail MITCHELL
I am looking for information regarding Daniel and/or Alexander Mitchell. These were my dad's uncles and one was a pig farmer and was a sheep farmer. Any information is greatly appreciated. Either one or both of them lived in the Galashiels area.
red mail Haig and Pringle
Looking for information on my grandmother Isabella Haig B 1909 in Galashiels, Mother was Maggie Haig 1883-1920, Isabella was raised by her Grandfather who was a shoe maker James A Haig 1861-1937 and an auntie? Maggie remarried in 1913 to a James Pringle who died shortly afterwards. Does anybody have any of these people in their tree?
red mail Anderson
Looking to trace any Anderson families in Galashiels. My grandfather John Anderson (b1874) was born in Sunderland but used to say his family came from Galashiels. His father was Alexander Anderson (b1838 in Scotland) and we know his father was also Alexander Anderson and he was a rope maker. John Anderson and his father both had seagoing careers. At the start of WW2 John Anderson evacuated all our family to Ayton. We strongly suspect that he arranged this using “family connections”. Any help to trace these families would be very much appreciated.
red mail Robert Henry/Helen Johnstone
Robert Henry and Helen Johnstone, our ggggrandparents, were married at Galashiels 1797. They later came to America and we know about them here, but we cannot find any record of them in Scotland. Any information much appreciated.
red mail Whyte / Izzett
I am searching for information about John Izzett, born about 1920, who married Catherine McFadden Whyte, b.1922. These two had 8 children: Raymond, Patricia, Marion, Diane, John, Helen, Margaret and Susan. John and Catherine later divorced, with Catherine moving to Australia. It is thought John may have altered his name now. Thanks
