From The Century Cyclopedia of Names 1895 James Gordon Bennett was born at New Mill Banffshire 1st September 1795 and died in New York 1st June 1872. An American journalist and founder of the - New York Herald - in 1835. He sent Stanley as an explorer to Africa 1871-1872. New Mill was in Keith On a more modern note - the term 'Gordon Bennett' has come into use as a mild expletive.
