New Tredegar/ Craswall - Herefordshire New Tredegar
I am searching for information about my grandfather William John Jones (sometimes known as Jack) born in New Tredegar in 1891. Mother was Emily Jones (nee Prosser). The Prosser family lived on Fothergill Terrace. William John married my grandmother Sarah Ann Pearce Bevan from Kentchurch in Herefordshire and they lived in Craswall in Herefordshire where his Uncles Bob Prosser and Bibi (Abimelech) lived on and developed the Reeds Farm. My grandparents occur in the 1911 census as married living at the Rock in Craswall. My mother Bessie Eileen Jones was born (1913) at 75 Jones Street in New Tredegar. She had an older sister Minnie. My mother was sent to a House of Mercy in Horbury, Wakefield when she was 13. We have no knowledge of what happened to William John. The family story suggests that he went to Liverpool but his wife eventually lived in Birmingham near to 2 half sisters of my mother. They were Mary (possible surname John) and Maud (married surname Keen). My questions are why did my mother go to Horbury? What happened to my grandfather? did he have another family? He apparently had a brother who kept a pub in Peterchurch. I am really anxious to solve the mystery of my grandfather and I would welcome all the help available. Ken
