red mail Thomas Henry Bates Hinckley
I am researching the Bates line in my family tree. My great grandfather was Thomas Henry Bates, born 1866, Kentish Town, St. Pancras. I believe Thomas was an only child, not finding any other records. He was a Merchant Seaman (ships cook) and think he died at sea during WW1. His parents were Henry Bates, born about 1842, Sharnford, Leicestershire and Lucy Ann Bush was his mother. Census records show them living in the Hinckley area around 1861 to 1881. Looking for any information on the Bates Family. Henry's parents were James Bates and Harriet Bilson/Billson. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

red mail BALL family Desford
I am interested in finding pre-1800 information about the family of Thomas BALL, born c.1806 in Desford, who married Martha CRAIN (CRANE) in Leicester in 1833. I believe his parents to be George and Ann (nee HARGRAVE) who married in Ratby in 1801, but have been unable to get back any further. Ann Hargrave was born in Cadeby c.1779 and I have no further information about George.
red mail Smith / Sims Hinckley
John Smith, an Ostler by trade, marries Mary Poole (a widow - originally Mary Sims) on 6 May 1792 at St. Marys Hinckley by license. John signed and Mary made her mark. Witnesses were Richard Clarke and Natt Smith. Natt also witnessed 2 other marriages on the page and is probably a witness provided by the church. The license bond was for 200-pounds and was assured by John Smith (Ostler) and John Ensor (Innkeeper), it is possible he was Johns employer.
