I am trying to find out about my Grandmother's older sister - my great Grandfather Thomas WINSTON(e) married Emma Porter on the 16th May 1855 in Abersychan Chapel.I first found the family in the 1871 Census listing Thomas, his wife Elizabeth and two daughters May/Mary(?)9 yrs and my future Grandmother Emma 6 yrs; I had her birth cert/GRO. Only when I tried to order the cert. I was told I had the wrong mother - becoming suspicious resulted in my finding EMMA PORTER - and both the Marriage cert. and Emma's Birth cert.for 27th Jan 1865. Looking under Death's found the GRO for Emma; and her certificate revealed she died 3 weeks after her daughter Emma's birth. Thomas Winston re-married the following year; (hence the muddle over the name)to Elizabeth Margaret Bothwell JOHN, so it was Emma's stepmother I had found. I also have the 1881 Census: there is Thomas, Elizabeth and Emma (16 yrs); and Emma May John 7yrs (niece) - but Emma's sister doesn't appear. Their address on both census is - 1 Monmouth Row, Trevethin - Thomas is a Clerk at the Ebbw Vale Office, Abersychan. I have had no luck trying to find May/Mary (could be either name) on IGI or "fiche" for her birth; only a slender hunch that a MARY Winstone of the right age, a Queens Scholar in Stapleton, Glous? Do any of these names mean anything to anyone, any "clue" could be helpful
