Entries around
red mail Wanlip Church
In a box of old family photos I found a postcard of the interior of Wanlip Church, the card is addressed to Mrs Brown,12 Park St. Islington N, and is post marked October 1904. The message on the card reads - “This is Wanlip Church now it is finished the first pew at right hand is ours. Mother is away visiting in Westmorland, well at Singleton at Preston went last Friday with love from all Susie. Thanks for letter, have not had PPC from India yet”. I can make a guess that Mrs Brown would be a sister-in-law of my grandfather, but so far in my research I haven’t come across a ‘Susie’ or any connection with Wanlip or that area, though I do have family connections in Westmorland. I have no idea if ‘India’ is the country or a name. Does anyone have access to any Church records which would show who bought the right to sit in the front right hand pew, or would it be a figure of speech? The card must have meant something to my father or his sister or it wouldn’t have been kept, can anyone help me solve the mystery of who Susie was? The sepia quality of the card isn’t very good but I would gladly try and scan it into an e-mail if anyone would like a copy.
