red mail Pitfolde/Pitfold/Pitfield
My wife is a very distant relative of John Pitfolde c1510 of Dorset. His son Robert Pitfold c1540 to 1586 is buried at Witchurch Canonicorum and according to his will he left his wife and other family members lots of Land in the Parishes of Allington,-Witchurch Canonicorum-,Long Bredy,-Marshwood-Symondsbury-Walditch-Shipton George and Powerstock. No mean fete for a man who died aged 46yrs. The name Pitfold later evolved into Pitfield and some generations later my wife,s 3 x gr/grandfather Robert Mallock married an Elizabeth(Betty)Pitfield. I wonder if the name still exists in any of the area,s mentioned.

red mail Spurrills in Whitchurch
Looking for information on my GG Grandfather. John Spurrill was born Aug 31, 1809. His gravemarker says he was born in Chard, Somerset, but his 1826 enlistment papers into the British Army say he was born in "Whitchurch Parish", Dorset. Pick your own spelling for the last name (Spurrell, Spurle, Spuril, Spurl, etc) as John was illliterate and his name is spelled how the recruiting officer thought it sounded.

Nags Head Fishpond Bottom
My father-in-law Frank Holmes was born in The Nags Head 1913, his mother was Mary Wilkinson Holmes a butcher's cashier but there is no father on the birth certificate. Frank Restorick was living there at the time. My father-in-law was adopted by Jennie Restorick who lived in Marshwood she reverted to her maiden name Gratten. Her father was William George Gratten they are both buried in Marshwood churchyard. My father-in-law died in 1970 and never told my husband about his family so we would like to find out anything which would fill in details of his history. The Restoricks were living in Crowcroft Farm Marshwood 1920.
