red mail William JOHNSON and Phoebe LIPSCOMBE
My third great grandfather William JOHNSON born about 1796 married a Phoebe LIPSCOMBE born about 1796 around 1815 but marriage record cannot be found. Both William JOHNSON and the father of Phoebe Lipscombe, Arthur LIPSCOMBE born about 1770 were mariners. Phoebe was born in Alverstoke but not sure about the others. Phoebe's parents Arthur LIPSCOMBE and Phoebe DEWEY were married in 1792 in Gosport. I am particularly interested in any information on William JOHNSON especially parents and naval records. Similarly Arthur LIPSCOMBE. I think the first 2 children of William Johnson and Phoebe Lipscombe (Mary Anne b 1816 and Emma b 1824) were born in Greenwich, Kent which suggests that William may have been in the Navy. Any help and advice on how to find further information on these ancestors would be much appreciated. Many thanks

red mail Elson Location
I have received a death certificate for my great great grandfather Thomas Henry Bevis 1839 -1880. It states he passed away 'Near The Fat Elson/Elbow' (?) in Elson (handwriting hard to decipher). Google searches reveals nothing for these premises so I wondered if anybody could shine further light on this location? The only other location it may be is The Fort Elson although the word looks more like 'Fat'. Thomas was a shipwright at the Dockyard.

red mail Dicks of Alverstoke
I have a family connection to Walter George Dicks (Jan 4 1904 - Apr 14 1988, died in Australia). We know his father was an E. J. Dicks (possibly, but not certainly, Edward), of Alverstoke, Hampshire. My wife seems to recall him saying his mother was Alice. This Alice was married twice, each time to one of the Dicks brothers. She had one child, Charles, to one of the brothers and then, after her first husband died, two others, Walter and John, to the other brother, E. J. We understand Charles died as an airman in the first World War. Does anyone have any information?

red mail George COLLINS/Margaret FORBES Late 1700s
Seeking information and contact from descendants of George COLLINS born 1768 at Alverstoke, Hampshire. George married a Margaret FORBES at St. Peter's Chichester, Sussex in 1788. The family settled at Gosport, near Alverstoke. Their children were Henry (1792), William (1794), Matthew (1796), Elizabeth Forbes (1798), James Westmore, (1799), Margaret (1804), Esther Brissault (1810), Susannah Fanny (1911) of whom I descend. I believe the family was very much of naval employment and I believe that Henry was a Royal Navy Commander although this is largely unproven. Also wondering where the French surname BRISSAULT fits into the COLLINS genealogy too. Any information especially old photos is very welcomed and appreciated. Distant cousins also warmly received.
