red mail Can anyone explain to me why Goldup Lane is called Goldup Lane
I am a decendent of Albert Edward Goldup born 29th April 1863 His Mothers name was Harriet Goldup ( nee Woodger ) and his Fathers name was Edward Goldup born 1831, he was a licensed Vidullar and ran the Lion Inn or Lean Inn at Ash Street Sandwhich as of the 1871 Census. Other children of Harriet and George were: Clara 1860 Alan 1867 and Maud 1874. My Grandmother Lillian Alberta millicent Goldup ( nee Palmer)1892 never said much about her Mother or Father as she was abandoned as a child after her father Died in Madras in India an the 1st of november 1891 in a tragic and mysterious fashion. But she used to talk about as a very young girl she used to stand on a chair serving beer to locals in a pub. And reciving gifts ( silver dollars and shoes each Christmas)from a relative in America who lived in detroit and worked at the Ford Motor Company, and mentioned Canterbury alot. From my own attempts i have discovered that the Goldups and the Palmers are decendents of Ash, Eastry and the surrounding areas and have much information about them. But i would love to hear from other decendents of Albert Edward Goldup, Harriet Goldup or Edward Goldup. And can anyone tell me why there is a "Goldup Lane" in this area. i have lots of info on the goldups from this area, and willing to share it.
