red mail An Baile Nua. Villierstown, An Baile Nua
Title in Gaelic bears no connection with the English name, which is derived from the local Landlord's name, or part thereof: Villiers-Stuart, at that time Lords Grandison. The village was preplanned for one purpose, manufacturing linen. The plans were magnificent, the village a bit less so-nevertheless beautiful to this day. Local wags, probably indigenous,if not aboriginal Gaelic speaking, even recently displaced, christened it An Baile nua, the new town, which it isn't any longer-a bit long in the tooth, at 240 years of age.
