Looking for info on my 2x Great Granda Hugh Harper, who is belived to be born in Donegal, Co Donegal in 1817. His 1st wife was a Mary Callan? and had at least 3 children, before she died. He went on to marry Marjory Farren in 1855 in Pt Glasgow, Scotland. Would anyone be related to him? Cheers Iain
red mail Barclay Sherry or McSherry
Barclay Sherry my great grandfather was born in 1858 in Donegal. Our old family bible states he came from "Roonian" but I can't find that on the map. Neither Barclay nor his wife Mary Duffy (b1857 at Netherton, New Kilpatrick, Dumbarton, Scotland) could write so his children could have written his birthplace down incorrectly without his knowing. Barclay may originally have been a McSherry. He had a brother also in Glasgow called James Sherry or McSherry. Barclay's marriage certificate listed his parents as John Sherry and Bridget (Mary?) Martin. I doubt there were only 2 of them in the family. Perhaps some of his siblings stayed in Ireland and their descendants remain there today?

red mail Ancertor of Joseph Shaw-Donegal, Ireland
I am ancestor of Joseph Shaw Born About 1835 in Donegal, Ireland and who was Married in Donegal to Catherine Black. Both were Born in Donegal. I do not know the Parents of Joseph Shaw or Catherine Black. Joseph and Catherine had a Son named Daniel Bernard Shaw, Born in Donegal about 1850. I do not know if they had any other Children. Daniel Bernard Shaw Married a Ellen Bradley. I do not know if they were married in Donegal. Ellen Bradley was Born About 1854 in Donegal. Her - Father and Mother were William Bradley and Frances Brown, both Born in Donegal. I would presume they were both Born around 1835. Joseph Shaw Born 1835 left Donegal, Ireland and came to America About 1879. Daniel B. Shaw and Ellen Bradley moved to Dumbarton, Scotland. I believe sometime before 1878. I do not know, if Joseph Shaw also left with them. I do know that Joseph Shaws - Wife- Catherine Black Died before Daniel B. and Ellen Shaw left for Dumbarton, Scotland. While in Dunbarton, Scotland - Daniel and Ellen had 3 Children: Daughters, Frances and Ellen and a Son, Daniel. Daniel B. Shaw also went to America in 1881 leaving his Family in Dumbarton, Scotland. Ellen Shaw and Her 3 Children later Departed Dumbaton, Scotland for America in 1882. If anyone can help me please contact me using this MESSAGE BOARD. red mail Beatty: James E; Thomas & Mary of Donegal
James E. Beatty was my husband's Gr. grandfather. I believe he came to USA on board ship "Etruria", 1885, sailing from Queenstown. Ship manifest lists Mary age 55,Matron; Thomas age 16, Laborer & James age 10 as child. Verbal history tells him 10yrs when he came, but actually he would be 11 in June '85 according to 1900 US Census- Maybe passing as "10" was less fare in steerage? I only know that he was said to be from Donegal - village or county?(unknown). I understand many official records have been destroyed - can anyone offer me advice in my search? Thanks, Mart
