red mail Stonemason. Dumfries
I am looking for any information about John Aitken, 1850, who lived with an aunt and uncle in 1861 - Gasstown Village and 1871 Gateside Dumfries Burgh. It is possible that he went to U.S.A. in 1902 on the Furnessia. His census return says he was born in England?! Thank you. Hazel

red mail Irving/McWhirr/ Little/ Shaw Dumfriesshire, County of Dumfries, Siorrachd Dhùn Phris (DFS, County, Scotland)
I am looking for information on my 4th Great Grandparents, George Irving born 1788 and Agnes Irving born McWhirr in 1786. (may be a different spelling variation for her maiden name) They were married around 1811 and came to Canada around 1828. His parents potentially could have been John Irving and Mary Little. Mary's parents may have been Matthew Little and Margaret Shaw and John Irving's father may have been William Irving. Sorry for the vague information but it's all that I have been able to find on either of their parents. Any information would be helpful. Thank you

red mail James Sommerville Gill Holywood
Trying to trace details about a James Gill born c1871 possibly Scotland and his father is named as James GILL on his marriage certificate. His father is still alive in 1898 when James married Sybella Glithero in Coventry. When their 2 children are born he states his name as JAMES SOMERVILLE GILL and James S Gill. On their marriage certificate he's just James Gill. On the 1901 census he's listed as James Gill born c1872 Scotland working as a pneumatic tyre worker in Aston Manor Warwickshire so he's probably working for Dunlop. He died age 36 in 1907 in Coventry and I can't find any other information about him and because he died intestate there was no will. The name SOMERVILLE/SOMMERVILLE doesn't crop up in any other documents either. If anyone has any information about either James Gill I'd appreciate you getting in touch.

red mail Aufrica Affricam Galloway 1120-1166 Dumfriesshire, County of Dumfries, Siorrachd Dhùn Phris (DFS, County, Scotland)
Very interestingly named ancestor; she married with Olaf Red Dwarf Gudrodsen, probably the son of a man called 'Gudrod', and they had a child called Godfred Black Olafsson 1140 1187. I'm wondering if the black was a reference to Aufrica perhaps being African, given the over reference to the dark continent in her name? I'm afraid I've hit a wall here; there does seem to be a fergus who could be her father though her biological mother seems to be an anonymous black woman. Again, any help would be appreciated. Cheers!
red mail Marriage of Sarah from Dumfries to William Stephen Hoare Dumfriesshire, County of Dumfries, Siorrachd Dhùn Phris (DFS, County, Scotland)
Any information gratefully received on probable marriage of Sarah from Dumfries to William Stephen Hoare between 1860 and 1880. William was from Cornwall, born in 1832, and was first married to Susan Jane Bray in 1852, and this union produced a son, John Henry shortly after their marriage. There is no further trace of her. William was living in Pimlico with Sarah at the time of the 1871 census, described as a builder, and they may have had a son, Henry, born about 1866. In 1872 they had a daughter, Lilian Grace, who was baptised in 1890 in Kensington. William was declared bankrupt in the late 1870's and died in Dumfries in May 1880. In 1881 Sarah had returned to Pimlico and is recorded in the 1881 census as a lodging house keeper, living with her daughter Lilian. She also appears in the 1891 census in the same area with the same occupation, but Lilian has disappeared. Sarah may have died in 1899. I do not have any information on the date or place of marriage of Sarah and William nor any further information on their children. So any additional information would be welcome. Thank you
