red mail Kemp-Gordon
I'm in search of living relatives associated with the Kemp-Gordon family. Jessie Kemp (B: Contin) married Alexander McRae (B:Ulla Pool, ~1833) in Urquhart in 1857. They had six children (Roderick, William, Fanny, Jessie, Ann, Murdo, Betsy (Bessie)). Bessie marries Roderick Gordon (his parents: John Gordon; Elizabeth McLennan) in Elgin in 1907. They have John Gordon (1908) and Frances Jessie Kemp (1910). Bessie's father Alexander McRae is buried in Elgin. We are in search of any information on the family and have a photo that we think is Alexander (Alec) McRae circa 1903.
I am searching for the ancestors of Alexander Wink of the Royal Artillery who died in Gibraltar in 1804 leaving a wife and small children. Alexander was married to a Jane. Their marriage has not been identified. After being widowed Mrs Jane Wink married a Richardson and had more children with him. The Wink descendants remained on Gibraltar though some did end up across the globe in England, the US and further. The Wink name seems to be concentrated around Forres and Elgin so I am searching for a family whose Alexander disappeared into the army. A military researcher had calculated he would have enlisted circa 1796. Carolyn
red mail Brown Family - Elgin
I am looking for photographic evidence of James Brown who was the Editor of the Elgin Courant in the 1800's. He originated from Montrose, wrote the much awaited Round Table Club articles in the Montrose and Elgin newspapers and subsequent book of the same name. I managed to find a copy of the book but do not have a picture of my GG Grandad.
red mail Forsyth Families Of Elgin
I am searching for any Forsyth families from Moray, especially Charles Forsyth born 1932-33 or any of his family members.
red mail Gall family of Barbados
The family tradition of the Galls who lived for many generations in Barbados is that they originally came from Elgin. There is no proof of this. The first family member in the Barbadian records is Andrew Gall who was the commander of the sloop Katherine and there are records which show him sailing frequently between Barbados and "Antegua" in 1679. He married in Barbados in 1672, so must have first left Scotland around 1670. Any thoughts on how to make a connection with Galls in Elgin or the surrounding parts of Scotland? David
