Crossways School
During the second world war pupils from Crossways School were evacuated to Exmouth, Devon. They lived at the property A la Ronde, now owned by the National Trust but then privately owned by Margaret and Stella Tudor. Two teachers went with the pupils - Miss Violet Skrimshire and Miss Bertha Dowsett. Two of the pupils may have been sisters with the surname Younghusband. Any memories of this time would be welcome.
red mail RAE staff during the last war
I am looking to find any information regarding a Mr Norman Justice Rowley from Rolls Royce Derby and Mr Roger Belanger a Canadian military officer based at the establishment from 1939 to 1945. Mr N Rowley lived at 145 Cove Road but I'm not sure where Mr R Belanger was billeted, it could have been the same address.
red mail Baseley , Besley
- Seeking information on my gt. grandmothers first husband James Parry Baseley. At a young age (18-20) my gt. grandmother Lillias Gibson, travelled from Stirling, Scotland to southern England to marry James at Farnborough in 1867. Family lore suggests he may have been stationed at Stirling Castle where they may have met. Regretfully, he died one year later in 1868. Lillias or Lily was in Scotland but I havent been able to locate James in the 1861 census so any details of him, his parents, or siblings would be greatly appreciated.
