red mail Northcotes of Millom
Hi, Looking for anyone who has information on the Northcotes that lived in Millom from c. 1870 to c. 1924. Richard Northcote moved from Devon in the late 1860's-1870. Richard's wife was Ann (Tancock), with children Richard, Henry, Mary Ann and Robert (Robert died 1870 at 14-15 years), their son John appears to have stayed in Devon. Son Henry married Margaret Alice Wilson. He worked in the mines, but also owned some properties and an orchard on King St. His children were Richard, John, Henry, Elizabeth (married a Holmes I believe), Solomon, Frederick and another daughter whose name escapes me. Does this sound familiar to anyone. If so I would love to hear from you.

Solomon was a mining engineer and probably worked at the Hodbarrow Mine at some stage. His father in law was John Lloyd Burn who is reported as discovering iron ore in this area. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.
