red mail Watermillock - Melfell House Farm Watermillock
My great great great grandfather Christopher Goulding is shown on the 1861 census as farming 300 acres whilst living at Melfell House. I'm assuming that he would be renting this property and land and was wondering where would be the best place to search to find out these details and also find out what he was farming on those 300 acres. Thanks.
red mail Wreck How of St John's in the Vale Threlkeld
Does any good person have knowledge of a farm or village named Wreck How in or near the parish of St John's in the Vale ? A family history entry for Elizabeth Gate b 20/09/1807 to Daniel Gate and Anne Stanley show that place as their home. Her parents have relatives at both Yew Tree Farm and Row End Farm which definitely in the parish.

Elizabeth had an illegitimate son Reginald (186) and she had two further sons to John - Thomas (1873) born in Stapleton, Cumberland and Samuel J (1875) - birth registered in Wetherall, Cumberland. I would like to know when John and Elizabeth died and also what happened to Thomas and Samuel in later life. Can anyone help please
red mail Hannah and William Parkin of Longthwaite Longthwaite
"William Parkin of Longthwaite was buried 9 Dec 1845 aged 47" according to the Wigton Burial Register, JAC854. William was my ggg-grandfather. He was married to Hannah Taylor, and they had 10 known children born in Cumberland between 1820 and 1839. Going from the children's christening records, William and Hannah must have come in to a bit of money about 1820: he was a Labourer at Buttermere in Feb 1820, but a farmer at Crookdake in 1821 and a farmer at Gillmoor 1823-1827, then innkeeper at the Wellington Inn in Bromfield 1829-1831. That didn't last: William was a Labourer at Warblebank in 1834, then at High Longthwaite in 1839. In the 1851 census, Hannah was living at High Moor, Woodside, Wigton, and listed as "Pauper Farmer's Widow." In the record of her 1855 burial in Wigton, Hannah was named as "widow of Wm Parkin of Sykes, Labourer." I would like to know more about William and Hannah's backgrounds and their family.
red mail Wilson in Matterdale, Cumberland Matterdale End
William Robert Kitchener Wilson was born in 1873 in Matterdale. He married Mary Jane Thewlis, probably around 1899 in Kendal. They lived variously in Kendal, Natland and Oxenholme. Please contact me if you have a connection, thank you.
red mail Jane Baty Threlkeld
Jane Baty married Hugh Gillibrand at Gretna Green on the 12th of M-squiggle, 1812. The record - just two lines in a tiny notebook - says that she was from the parish of Threlkeld, which is in the Barony of Greystoke. The 1841 Census has her born some time around 1780. Hugh was from Chorley and I have found his family in the IGI but cannot find any trace of Jane. Her baptism would most likely be in the parish records of either Threlkeld or Greystoke. Can anyone help me get back any further?
