Scovell family in Hamble and S. Stoneham Hamble-le-Rice
My Great- grandparents Alexander Gordon SCOVELL b.1840 and Hannah Eleanor TAYLOR were from Hamble, Hampshire, and they migrated to South Australia in 1876. They brought with them their children, Eleanor and Hannah. Also with them on the ship were 4 brothers from the SCOVELL family that lived at Weston farm, St. Mary, South Stoneham. I assume these were cousins. The parents- John and Elizabeth SCOVELL. The offspring of this family who stayed in England were :John b.1849, Richard b. (?) and Robert b.1857. Robert was a steward on the Titanic and did not survive the sinking-as far as we know. I would be very pleased to hear from anyone who is related to any of these. Also would appreciate any information on what Sth. Stoneham was like and where the farm was situated. Also any idea of where my grandparents actually lived in Hamble/Hamble le Rice would be welcome. Ian
Last year when visiting Titchfield I found Hollam House which was the school my family attended around 1900, until 1908 when family circumstances changed. I would love to know more about the school and if there are any records kept. It is now apartments but the buildings still remain and the grounds are quite spectacular as are the views looking back towards St Peter's I believe.
