red mail HARVEY EDWARDS
My ggrandmother was Jane Harvey born circa 1847 in Yeovil, Somerset. She married Henry Edwards (no marriage certificate so far) around 1865-1869 and had at least eight children. She lived for most of her life at various nos in Langthorne St, Stratford in East London. I'd love to hear from you if you know something about this family.
red mail A Birth in 1894
My father, Reginald Percy Coles, was born in Yeovil in January 1894. The on-line 1901 Census shows him, aged 7, living at 22 Queen Street. He is described as the 'grandson of Emily Coles', aged 48. This is where it gets interesting. There is no mention of my father's mother, Amelia Jane Coles, probably called just 'Jane', a housemaid in a large house in the town, who had become pregnant while unmarried. An unspeakable scandal in those days. I suspect she dumped the child with her mother. My father never knew who his father was, but there was some gossip, it seems, that it was the Congregationalist minister, Rev. Samuel Thodey Allen, who, unlike most of his kind, was wealthy, and could therefore afford the £1000 which was paid over to ensure that no more was ever said about it. But I stress that while Rev. Allen's residence in Yeovil at that time has been confirmed, the rest of what I have written is speculation. It's over a hundred years ago. To find my paternal grandfather now isa very long shot Ñ so long as to be most likely unbridgeable. But very odd coincidences DO happen, I've found, and I'm posting this entry just in case somebody out there is in possession of information I have never had.
red mail Hooper/sharpe
I am looking for details of the parents of this married couple. William Aulska Hooper married Anne Sharpe and had 8 children.
red mail Knight family Yeovil
I'm trying to find the details of the birth of John Knight abt 1843 in Yeovil. I have found him in the 1891 census by which time he had moved to Mere, Wiltshire with his wife Sarah M (b abt 1851 Yeovil) and children Louisa b.1877,Henry J b.1881, William J b.1882,Charles b.1884, Susan b.1887 and Arthur b.1889. Any info much appreciated.
red mail Cox
I am looking for any information on the Cox family that were, in the 1911 census living at 4 Spring Gardens, Yeovil. The family consisted of: Samuel born 1884, Alice Maude (nee Archer) born 1884 and their daughters Gwendoline and Dorothy. I know that Gwendoline married someone called Jupe and returned to Devon but I have not been able trace anything about the remaining family members. Any help gratefully received!
red mail Parents of Henry Charles Hambridge (b.1829)
I'm looking for more information on the parents of Henry Charles Hambridge. He was born April 10, 1829 in Yeovil and died in Buffalo, NY in 1915. He married Caroline Ricks in 1852 and they had 8 children. I am looking for more information in Henry's parents. All I know if his father was born about 1799 and named George. Any info on mother's name or siblings would be appreciated!
red mail Beale Collins
I am searching for any descendants of William and Sarah Beale Collins of 3 Princes Street, Yeovil. They were my great grandparents and had 7 children. My grandmother, Ethel, was the middle child, I knew her as "Gee".and she preferred to be known as Sarai. Harold was the eldest and Gordon the youngest. My grandmother fell out with her family - I do not know why and my father, Colin, her only child was born in 1914. Great uncle Gordon was supposedly severly gassed in WWI and disappeared. He was my grandmother's favourite sibling and my father's godfather.
red mail Tomkins family
I am searching for family details on William Tomkins born about 1801, married Hannah (no maiden name) (also born about 1801) in 1822, children included Henry Holland Tomkins, Thomas Fancourt Tomkins, Marcianna Tomkins, Emma Tomkins. Can anyone help with information on this family. I have come to a dead end on my family tree.
red mail Dorothy Daisy Garrett - 1895
I am looking for information on Dorothy Daisy, probably just called Daisy. She was the daughter of James and Kate Garrett. Dorothy had an illegitimate daughter in 1926. Any information on the family would be welcome.
red mail William A & Lily J Strachan
In the 1901 census, William Strachan is living with his wife Lily J Strachan. She came from Penzance, Cornwall, and he was a commercial traveller in biscuits. Their address was 19 Victoria Road, and it's looking likely that he was my great grandfather. The trouble is, he seems to have had more than one family, as he also shows up as being with my great grandmother in Taunton, on the same census night. My great grandparents weren't married, as he had already been married to an Ellen Elizabeth Dodds in 1877. On the census, his age looks like 40 and his place of birth is shown as London, all of which is correct for my ancestor. Has anyone any further information about this couple, as I have been unable to find a marriage reference for them.
