red mail John JOHNS
Searching for my Great Great Grandfather John JOHNS. He was born 7 Aug 1836 in Cornwall and died 24 Jan 1916 in South Australia, Australia. His wife (cannot verify they married) was Hannah Maria McMAHON born c.1838 in County Wicklow Ireland, she died 21 Aug 1930 in Broken Hill, NSW, Australia. They lived in Moonta, South Australia and Broken Hill, NSW, Australia - I believe her father was William McMAHON although her surname on birth certificates varied. My Great Grandmother Ellen JOHNS was on of their children. I cannot find anything about John JOHNS and would appreciate any information and also anything on Hannah Maria. Thanking you in advance, Sharon.
McDonalds of St.Ives
Hi, I was wondering if I might get some assistance with my MacDonald/McDonald family please. I'm looking for where John McDonald originated from. He was born about 1750/1760, a sojourner/mariner who appeared in St Ives and married Margaret "Peggy" Grenfell on 23 August 1783 in St Ives Cornwall.I know absolutely nothing about him and can't seem to find anything either. He had 11 children -Eleanor b 1785, John 1786-1787, Margaret 1787-1787,William 1789-1846 a mariner died in Tasmania (m. Mary Rowe 15 July 1810 Falmouth - a son William Henry b 1812), John 1790-1819 mariner on HMS Dreadnought (m. Sibella Jenkyn 8 Feb 1808 Devon), James 1795-1845 mariner (m. 13 Dec 1830 Peggy Pearce nee Huxtable nee Rowe), Thomas 1796-1797, Eleanor 1797-1867 (m. John Grenfell mariner 9 July 1825. Their son Richard Capt of "Vivid" drowned at sea with his son also Richard), Thomas b/d 1800, Margaret 1802, Thomas 1804-1860 Master Mariner Coastguard and Coasters, Capt of Schooner "Adamant" died in Barrow, Cumbria and buried in Dalton in Furness (m. Maria Toms 27 Feb 1827). McDonald isn't a common name in Cornwall around 1780 and although I've found 2 more getting married there in different parts, I can't find any link for my John to them. I would dearly love to find out who John McDonald was etc but if you are able to help with any of the rest of the family I would be deeply appreciative. Thank you ever so much, Marj
