He was the son of John Man (b. 1715 christened in Alves) who was the son of John Man (b. 1678 christened in Drainie). John Mann (1756) left wife, Jannet Laing (b. 1753 christened in Elgin) behind where she died in Elginin 1831. She was the daughter of William Laing and Elizabeth Douglas.

I am trying to trace ancestory of Charles's parents who I have unconfirmed as Hector or William Munro and a Mary McKenzie.
