Ireland, Country
This page is for entries which apply to the whole of Ireland, eg general information on Ireland , one name studies covering the whole of Ireland, and enquiries when you have no idea which part of Ireland your surnames came from.

Surnames in Ireland, like England, do tend to be strong in certain areas. First names are sometimes claimed to have regional patterns as well. It's worth checking Familysearch provided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for clues.
Also see Some Surname Distribution Patterns.

Dulen, Dolan, Doolan family
Am trying to find out more about Dolan/Dulen family (although records use a number of variant spellings). Mary was born 1818 and baptised at St Patrick's Church in Soho. Her parents were Michael Dolan and Margaret nee Flanagan and were both born in Ireland but no information as to where. They were married at St Giles in the Fields Church in London, in 1807. I have also found two other children, John born 1810 and Margaret born 1816, both in Soho. Mary married William Bennett in 1843 at St Pancras Church.
red mail James Francis MULHEIR
Looking for official details of his birth. In 1901 and 1911 censuses his birthplace is listed as Liverpool, Lancs, circa 1867/8, but there doesn't seem to be any record corresponding with that. In those censuses he is down as a coal miner. His marriage to Elizabeth WILKINS - in 1890, East Clevedon, Somerset - he is recorded as a Sailor, and there is no record of him in censuses prior to 1901 - in England and Wales, nor any reliable records of his stated father Patrick. Assuming from the surname that there are Irish origins. Any help would be appreciated.
