Scotland (Country)
This page is for entries which apply to the whole of Scotland, eg general information on Scotland , one name studies covering the whole of Scotland and enquiries when you have no idea which part of Scotland your surnames came from. Scotland had 34 historic counties. In 1975 these were abolished and replaced by 9 regional councils and 3 island councils. Now 32 unitary authority districts. Curiousfox uses the historic counties.

I am helping my mum to trace family members through her dads side of the family. We are keen to find any members or information of a John Patrick McCann (born 1855?) He was an architect in Aberdeen and son of John McCann (born 1825) and Elizabeth McCann (nee Hamball). He had siblings, Patrick, Thomas, Hugh, William and Bernard. As far as we know some of them migrated to the U.S. If anyone has any info we would be very grateful.
red mail Macdonald/Cruikshank
I am looking for any information on my G Grandfather John MACDONALD (b. ~1872). He married Catherine or Kathleen Moir CRUIKSHANK after the Siege of Ladysmith (S Africa Nov 1899 - Feb 1900). I believe they had nine children incl. Phyllis Isobel MACDONALD (my grandmother). From what I've been told they met in Ladysmith, returned to Britain where they were married and then settled in S Africa.
